First Signs of Spring

March 2, 2026

Spring never arrives all at once. It slips in through small details: the willow catkins turning silver, a slightly warmer edge to the wind, the first coltsfoot opening on a sunny bank.

This week the frogs started calling from the pond behind the woods. For a few nights the sound is almost deafening, then it fades as quickly as it began.

If you want to notice the season changing, pick one spot and visit it every few days. A single tree, a hedge or a corner of a garden will tell you more than any calendar.
